The film follows Bassam Mortada from his childhood, growing up with a father imprisoned in the notorious Abo Zaabal Prison, through his father’s release and subsequent departure to Vienna, leaving him and his mother behind. Through a collection of cassette tapes and letters, the film unfolds the memories of a family fragmented by political struggle.

تيم غارسيا هو دي جي ومذيع إذاعي ومؤسّس شركة تسجيلات موسيقية، وُلد في لندن، وقد شكّل شغفه العميق بالموسيقى مسيرة مهنية غنيّة ومتعدّدة الأبعاد. على مدى العقد الماضي، أصبح اسمًا بارزًا في مشهد الموسيقى المستقلة في لندن، ويُعرف بنهجه العابر للأنواع الموسيقية وبخبرته الموسيقية الواسعة. قدّم عروضه كدي جي في نوادٍ ومهرجانات حول العالم، من بينها مهرجان غلاستونبري، ومهرجان مونترو للجاز، وWe Out Here، وBeneath The Baobabs في كينيا، إضافة إلى مساحات موسيقية أيقونية مثل Fabric وPhonox.

This workshop is open to beginners and aspiring DJs interested in learning the basics of DJing and developing their listening and mixing skills. Led by Tim Garcia, DJ, broadcaster, label founder, and visiting artist at the Wonder Cabinet. The session will cover fundamental techniques, approaches to selection, and how to think about DJing as a cultural and creative practice.

Instructions:

• Bring: USB (preferably 2), headphones (with 1/4” adapter if possible), and a USB library of 20–50 tracks you want to mix.

• Files: ideally 320kbps MP3 (or WAV/AIFF/FLAC). Please avoid YouTube rips/low-quality files.

• Where to buy/download: Bandcamp or Beatport recommended.

• USB format: FAT32 is safest. Organize tracks into a couple of folders/playlists.

Tim Garcia is a London-born DJ, broadcaster, and label owner whose deep-rooted passion for music has shaped a vibrant and multifaceted career. Over the past decade, he has become a fixture in London’s underground scene, celebrated for his genre-fluid approach and deep musical knowledge. His DJing has taken him to clubs and festivals around the world, with standout sets at Glastonbury, Montreux Jazz Festival, We Out Here, Beneath The Baobabs in Kenya, and iconic venues such as Fabric and Phonox.
