The session will cover fundamental techniques, approaches to selection, and how to think about DJing as a cultural and creative practice.

Instructions:

• Bring: USB (preferably 2), headphones (with 1/4” adapter if possible), and a USB library of 20–50 tracks you want to mix.

The lecture aims to promote the work of Espacio MNWAL, a new Palestinian cultural center in Patronato, Chile that responds to the ongoing genocide and Nakba. "Under the Same Earth," a collaborative project with Wonder Cabinet and OtherNetwork, was a month-long site-specific artist residency where 11 artists activated a six-meter-deep vacant lot, creating a laboratory for thought, speculation, and creation about extractivism as an interconnected phenomenon that triggers various forms of violence.

José Hassi Gidi is an architect with a Master's degree in Architecture PUC (2019). His interests focus on the history and theory of architecture, particularly as it relates to modern heritage, alongside an active professional practice. His work has been published in various national and international journals, and exhibited at the 22nd and 23rd Chilean Architecture and Urbanism Biennials. He is currently a partner at Zocalo Arquitectura and a university professor. He is also the co-founder of Espacio MNWAL (2025), a Palestinian cultural center located in the Patronato neighborhood of Santiago, Chile.

Chile, 1972. During Salvador Allende’s Government the building in which the Third Session of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD III) would take place, was built in a record time of 275 days. Gas Leaks delves into the convergence of 34 artists convoked to integrate their art to the building’s architecture, and what would later become of these pieces in Chilean history.

Bruno Salas Zarzar is a Chilean visual artist, filmmaker, and cultural manager working across cinema, architecture, and cultural heritage. He studied Visual Arts at Universidad Finis Terrae and Art and Cultural Semiotics at the University of Chile.

From 2011 to 2014, he was Head of the Cultural Section at the Embassy of Mexico in Chile, where he coordinated major mural restoration projects by Siqueiros, Guerrero, and González Camarena, and authoredUn relato en comúnfor Chile’s National Monuments Council.

He is currently Head of Content and Colloquia at ArqFilmFest (International Architecture and Film Festival) and General Producer of Festival Espacios Resonantes, both platforms focused on critical intersections between space, sound, and visual culture. He is also Co-founder of Blurrr, a Chile-based cultural tech startup (blurrr.tv).

Of Palestinian descent from Bethlehem, he is founder of Zaatar Foundation and a founding member of Cineastas por Palestina, supporting cultural exchange and Palestinian cinema in Latin America.

Sonografía is an experimental audiovisual documentary by DUB JAM HIGH Collective, that talks about sound system culture and the music as a medium of resistance around the world.

DUB JAM HIGH is a project in audiovisual creation, production, training, and management that is focused on urban culture and the resulting social phenomena related to music and dance. The project’s relation with the Mexican sonidero culture, sound system culture, and other urban sound systems from different countries in South America and the Caribbean have led to the creation of visual documents.

As an educational project, Dub Jam High has given workshops, clinics, screenings, and self-management practices through new media, a variety of technologies, and audiovisual sharing sessions.

The Funambulist does not understand architecture as an authored design of inhabitable sculptures, but rather as a discipline that organizes bodies in space. And it is through this framework that the magazine proposes an introspection of our shared solidarity practices.

The “We” mobilized across thousands of pages of the issues published so far is at once an articulation of political imaginaries that shape our movement towards liberated futures as well as a reminder of the risks posed by universalizing the minoritized and colonized experience in a way that decontextualizes, displaces, and dilutes the specificities of their struggles.

As we confront our oppressors, it is urgent to ask ourselves how we prioritize certain struggles over others; how our solidarities are conditional and who demarcates the limits of respectability of our demands; what forms of violence we participate in by not engaging with the blind spots of our solidarity practices; why we dismiss and diminish certain struggles from the global fight against imperialism; and why are relationalities of reciprocity, visibility, and centrality weaponized to conceal the imperfections of our solidarities.

Over the course of a week, The Wonder Cabinet opens its space to the decade-long journey of The Funambulist and gathers these questions in the form of an exhibition, featuring a reading room to access all issues of the magazine, a listening booth with a curated selection of podcast episodes, a workshop on independent publishing, and a discussion on creating our liberation pedagogies.

ترتكز هذه الورشة على نموذج النشر الذي تعتمده مجلة ذا فنمبوليست، موضّحةً الدقّة والتركيز اللذان يحددان خطها التحريري، إلى جانب التشعّبات السياسية والتربوية المتعددة التي تُشكّل عملها. وتهدف إلى تقديم صورة تفصيلية من خلف الكواليس عن سير العمل اليومي للمجلة، مع تأمل في التحديات التي واجهتها، ونقاط العمى التي لا تزال تعمل على معالجتها خلال مسيرتها الممتدة على مدى عقدٍ من الزمن.

تُعدّ هذه الورشة ذات فائدة خاصة للمبادرات التحريرية المستقلة، ومشاريع الزينات، والمنصات الرقمية، أو لكل من يهتم بسياسات المحتوى التحريري وأشكاله.

This workshop is anchored in the publishing model of The Funambulist, delineating the rigor and focus of the magazine’s editorial line as well as the multiple political and pedagogical tangents that shape their work. It aims to offer a detailed behind-the-scenes portrait of the magazine’s everyday operations and reflects on the challenges that they have faced as well as the blind spots that they continue to address in their decade-long journey. This workshop will be particularly useful for independent publications, zines, online platforms, or more broadly anyone curious about the politics of editorial content and form.

لا تُختزل العمارة لدى "ذا فونامبولِست" في تصميمِ منحوتاتٍ قابلةٍ للسكن، بل تُفهم بوصفها ممارسةً تنظّم الأجساد في الفضاء. ومن هذا المنظور، تقترح المجلة تأمّلًا نقديًّا في ممارسات التضامن التي نتشاركها.

إنّ "النحن" الممتدّة عبر آلاف الصفحات المنشورة حتى الآن تُشكّل، في آنٍ واحد، تعبيرًا عن متخيّلاتٍ سياسية تدفع حركتنا نحو مستقبلاتٍ متحرّرة، وتذكيرًا بالمخاطر الكامنة في تعميم تجارب المجموعات المُهمَّشة والمستعمَرة على نحوٍ يجرّدها من سياقاتها ويُضعف خصوصيّة نضالاتها.

وفي مواجهة أنظمة القمع، تبرز الحاجة الملحّة إلى مساءلة ذواتنا: كيف نُعطي الأولوية لبعض النضالات دون غيرها؟ وكيف تصبح تضامناتنا مشروطة، ومن يرسم حدود المقبولية لمطالبنا؟ وأيّ أشكال من العنف نُسهم فيها حين نتغاضى عن النقاط العمياء في ممارسات تضامننا؟ ولماذا نُهمِّش بعض النضالات ضمن المواجهة العالمية مع الإمبريالية؟ وكيف تُستَخدم علاقات التبادلية والظهور والمركزيّة لإخفاء نقائص تضامناتنا؟

على مدار أسبوع، يفتح مجلس العجب مساحته لاستضافة الرحلة الممتدة لعقدٍ من الزمن لـ"ذا فونامبولِست"، جامعًا هذه الأسئلة ضمن معرض يضمّ غرفة قراءة تتيح الاطلاع على جميع أعداد المجلة، وكابينة استماع تضمّ مجموعة مختارة من حلقات البودكاست، وورشة عمل حول النشر المستقل، ونقاشًا حول بناء بيداغوجيات التحرير.

The Funambulist does not understand architecture as an authored design of inhabitable sculptures, but rather as a discipline that organizes bodies in space. And it is through this framework that the magazine proposes an introspection of our shared solidarity practices.

The “We” mobilized across thousands of pages of the issues published so far is at once an articulation of political imaginaries that shape our movement towards liberated futures as well as a reminder of the risks posed by universalizing the minoritized and colonized experience in a way that decontextualizes, displaces, and dilutes the specificities of their struggles.

مساءلة تضامناتنا: احتفالًا بمرور عشرة أعوام على "ذا فونامبولِست"

تشكّل هذه الجلسة مساحة للتفكير في سياسات إنتاج المعرفة والقيود التي نواجهها في تداول أفكارنا في مواجهة البنى النيوليبرالية و الاستعمارية المهيمنة. ومن خلال الالتفات إلى مسألة الشكل، يناقش المتحدثون ثقل وبنية الأدوات السردية عبر الوسائط البصرية والنصّية والخرائطية، التي تتيح مشاركة مفرداتنا النضالية المتمرّدة عبر الجغرافيات المختلفة.

كما تتناول الجلسة إشكالية الكيفية التي تُشكّل بها اللغة شروط انخراطنا السياسي وتحدّدها، وبالتالي نوع السياسات التي تُحشَد في فعل الترجمة ذاته.

The Funambulist 10 Year Anniversary Exhibition: Questioning our Solidarities

This conversation constitutes a reflection on the politics of knowledge production and the constraints we face in circulating our ideas against the dominant neoliberal and colonial infrastructures. In turning to the question of form, the speakers discuss the weight and structure of narrative tools across the visual, textual, and cartographic formats that allow the insurgent vocabularies of our struggles to be shared across geographies. Further, they problematize the ways through which language shapes and defines the terms of our political engagement and, as such, the kind of politics are mobilized in the act of translating.
